Every girl's got to have a go-to cookie recipe, right? And, every girl thinks her cookie recipe is the best.
And it is.
The Best Sugar Cookies
Here's how to make my favorite cookies, which are sugar cookies, the dough rolled out and cut with cookie cutters and the cookies decorated with frosting. (On the tray pictured here, I have also included cake balls. Because cookies go better with cake. Ooh la la!)
You'll need 1 cup soft butter, 1 cup regular sugar (blend together), 1 egg (beat in), 2 tablespoons orange juice (add), 1 tablespoon vanilla (add) , 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (I mix the flour, soda and salt in a separate bowl and add it gradually), 1 teaspoon baking powder, dash of salt. Refrigerate 3 hours or longer.
This dough is very cooperative and it rolls and cuts like a dream on a lightly-floured surface! Bake the cookies at 400 degrees, for 6 - 10 minutes depending on the thickness. Let the cookies cool before you attempt to start decorating.
For the frosting, beat together 3 cups powdered sugar, 1/3 cup butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 tablespoons milk and a dash of salt.
